For one local network station project in 2017, low voltage systems were selected at 7 locations taking into account the capacity utilisation, feed-in power, network availability
and site in the medium voltage network. Once the implemented technology was successfully tested, the rollout commenced: After only one year around 50 intelligent local network stations were already in operation. Syna is also planning to incorporate this annual volume in the years ahead. SAE telecontrol technology is in use in the intelligent local network stations of Syna GmbH. Each local network station is equipped with an FW-5-GATE and a PM-1 extension board per low voltage outgoing circuit, this enabling the measurement of numerous relevant network values for monitoring the energy supply and capacity utilisation of the primary technology (for example voltage, power, energy etc.).
The intelligent local network stations are also equipped with earth fault and short circuit indicators made by Kries GmbH and also allow measurements and controls in the area of medium voltage. The data from these units is read out by the FW-5-GATE via Modbus and transmitted with all other values to the network control system of Syna GmbH. The units are linked via ModBus RTU to the telecontrol, thus enabling an evaluation of rudimentary measuring data and switching actions in the medium voltage area.

The measured values from the local network stations enable a more precise evaluation of load flows, which network operation, network management, network planning and network security management can benefit from. For instance, voltage and power values are exported from the network control system and made available to the target network planning via browser visualisation. Thanks to these statistics, previous dimensioning concepts for the stations can be verified with real data. This information can therefore be made available to municipalities or other third parties too.

The situation for the employees in field service has been improved on site too: The visIT visualisation software lets the service personnel can access the system visualisation locally using their laptop and thus identify any error sources faster.
Syna GmbH believes that remote controllability as well as the option for data collection and analysis form important cornerstones for realising its objectives.

“So the local network station helps to optimise network development, recognise critical developments at an early stage, as well as respond faster in the event of a fault and speed up the restoration of supply for customers. The project is also envisaged as an investment in the future: for identification of the network challenges that e-mobility and an increasing number of network nodes as well as PV feeders entail.”
