The subsidiary Max Bögl Wind AG contributes to the more efficient use of renewable energies through innovative technology solutions and thus actively promotes the energy revolution. The company is Germany's market leader in the production, supply and construction of hybrid towers. Max Bögl Wind AG also sets new standards in the field of electricity storage in a technically innovative way. For example, with the invention of the water battery, a completely new type of large-scale storage facility was developed. It combines for the first time, the production of electricity from renewable energy sources with a modern pumped storage power plant.

On an area of approx. 125 ha, the industrial network of Max Bögl Wind AG has an average annual consumption of approx. 26 GWh with a peak load of approx. 6.3 MW. The annual electricity production of the volatile generation plants is about 25.5 GWh. The integration of a lithium-ion battery storage with a connected load of 1.9 MW also supports the development of a holistic cellular energy system. This enables the industrial network to act as a "prosumer" and provide the corresponding flexibility.
For a meaningful load management and reliable detection of possible peak loads, the network status and consumption data from all network areas are collected and consolidated. For this purpose, Max Bögl Wind AG is working on the development of connected telecontrol nodes on all medium-voltage networks within the industrial network.

The company has been using SAE components for about 6 years. In a total of 26 stations, the devices are used for feed-in management of the regenerative generation plants and/or for direct marketing of the available energy (setpoint setting, cos phi control and circuit breaker control). The main task of telecontrol technology is the acquisition of information from protective devices, earth fault indicators and switch positions as well as their selection and forwarding to the superordinated control system.
The telecontrol devices FW-5, FW-5-GATE and FW-50 of different CPU generations are deployed. As additional component the UPS module from Akkutec is used.

Communication concept
The master station in the transfer station communicates with the RTUs in the substations via a fiber optic ring line and fiber optic/Ethernet converter. The IEC 60870-5-104 protocol is used both between the control center and the master station and between the master station and substations. For the connection of the protection devices -103 is used, for the coupling of the short circuit indicators Modbus RTU. The transmission of information to the network operator is carried out via -101 protocol. In addition, a transmission list is provided to the grid operator for the specification of the feed-in management of photovoltaic systems, wind and combined heat and power plants. A redundant head-end station is currently being planned, which is to be integrated into the telecontrol network in the beginning of 2020.

Numerous actions are also taken regarding IT security. The telecontrol technology is located in a virtual LAN segment, which is routed to the connectIT server via several routers. A firewall between the router and the telecontrol network allows only released network areas and protocols. The RTUs can therefore not be reached from outside. In addition to user administration (RBAC), the use of secure protocols (https, ftps) and the deactivation of services that are currently not required (memory stick transfer, website, ftp, ...) contribute to a high level of IT security.

In the future, Max Bögl is planning a research project with the OTH Regensburg on the "island network operation of an industrial network with integration of the regenerative generation plants (in the case of black out) as a contribution to the network reconstruction of the public supply network, as well as to the provision of system services".
In this research project the SAE technology will also be used and the synergy effects of the longterm cooperation between the Max Bögl group of companies and SAE are built on.
