The Augsburg public utilities are the third largest public utility company in Bavaria, with electricity, gas, drinking water, district heating and transport sectors. Since 2006 we have been able to deliver net-line telecontrol units to Augsburg for the electricity sector; the project planning was undertaken by the Augsburg public utility personnel themselves.

Description

Initially, we supplied net-line FW-40 stations for network node stations in the medium-voltage network, which were each connected to a higher-level telecontrol system by means of a VFT link using IEC 60870-5-101. FW-50 telecontrol technology was then used later.

Following a discontinued post-leased line and owing to good experiences in the electricity field, net-line FW-5 and FW-50 units have also been used since 2009 in the gas sector, a GPRS VPN encrypted DSL link to the higher-level node in the heating plant using IEC 60870-5-104 having been planned independently in the first project. The stations in the gas supply are mostly formed with net-line FW-5 and expansion modules, communication taking place via dedicated signal cables by means of VFT links or SHDSL links with IEC 60870-5-101.

In the middle of 2010, the project “Data connection of customer renewable energy feed-in sources” was put out to tender. After evaluation and a positive type test, a renewable energy system designed completely by SAE was chosen, based on a net-line FW-5 station with an expansion module and GPRS modem for communication to the control centre using IEC 60870-5-104. The customer stations are incorporated in the control centre by a net-line FW-50 node, which is serial-connected to the ABB front end using IEC 60870-5-101. Further renewable energy stations have subsequently been ordered, which are connected to the new ABB central control station in a system-identical manner.
