The expansion of district heating continues apace, and for a good reason: The district heating generated by combined heat and power in cogeneration plants has a high level of efficiency and therefore allows provision of heat and hot water with particularly sparing use of resources.

Responsibility for monitoring a district heating network is associated with many challenges. Problems in the network can often only be identified once cost-intensive damage has resulted. An efficient monitoring concept with control system connection can be the solution. The solution from SAE IT-systems gets to the core of these problems: the experienced system supplier has extended its established telecontrol and transmission technology by special measuring components for application in district heating networks. The solution therefore enables continuous digital monitoring of district heating networks and slots from the control centre – with a very good price-performance ratio.

The monitoring solution: net-line FW-5 with the PIT-1 and ISO-1

Decentralized line sections demand a lot from operators of district heating networks. Continuous digital monitoring by the established FW-5 telecontrol device with the ISO-1 and PIT-1 extension modules enables more control from a distance, as well as better protection of employees. For this purpose, the extension modules take over the necessary monitoring and measuring tasks by means of their sensors: Insulation measurements in the insulation foam, water ingress monitoring for manholes and temperature detection for the water in the supply and return lines. The net-line FW-5 transmits the measured data securely to the control station via the standardized IEC 60870-5-101/-104 or Modbus RTU/TCP protocols.
